Our Bathroom Amenities
Oceana B&B has a strong focus on Sustainability, and we encourage our guests to use provided compostable bags for recyclables.
Oceana B&B are working towards a more sustainable approach to hosted accommodation, and are excited to introduce the latest addition, Beauty and the Bees. This Tasmanian brand has a vast range that spans across shampoo and conditioner bars, soap, body, and face moisturizers, exfoliators and much more. The Beauty and The Bees products are nutrient-rich, made from fruits, berries, seaweed, hops, olive oil, honey, and herbs. The eco-friendly hair and skin care products have their ingredients sourced from apiaries, beaches, dairies, forests and farms. The hero ingredient is the Leatherwood honey and beeswax that can only be found in Tasmania. This eco-friendly hair and skincare brand has been a welcomed addition to Oceana B&B and has helped us in minimizing our environmental waste of single use plastics in traditional bathroom amenities. Our amenities include the luxurious shampoo, conditioner, and soap.

Our Sustainability Commitment
At Oceana Bed and Breakfast (B&B), we are deeply committed to sustainable practices.
Our mission is to ensure our business supports a healthier planet for generations to
come. We are fully conscious of the importance of preserving natural resources and the
impact our operations could have on the environment.
Our approach to sustainability begins with energy-efficient measures throughout our
property. All lighting in our B&B is LED, significantly reducing energy consumption
compared to traditional lighting solutions. Our appliances carry the Energy Star rating,
further minimizing energy use.
We have also introduced a comprehensive recycling program. Guests are encouraged to
separate their waste into recyclable and non-recyclable items. In our kitchen, food waste
is composted and used to enrich our organic vegetable garden. The fresh, local produce
and organically grown edible flowers and garnishes from this garden help us serve
delightful breakfasts, whilst simultaneously reducing our contribution to landfills.
In our efforts to conserve water, we've equipped our B&B with low-flow toilets and
showerheads. These measures significantly reduce water usage without impacting our
guests' experience. Our efforts are further complemented using solar energy, which
lessens our dependency on grid-supplied energy, and a hybrid vehicle, contributing to a
lower carbon footprint.
In our bathrooms, guests will find Beauty and the Bees amenities. These natural
products not only provide an indulgent experience but also align with our commitment to
sustainability. We also provide Who Gives A Crap recycled toilet paper, another
testament to our dedication to environmental preservation.
Beyond our environmental efforts, we are also committed to supporting our local
community. We prioritize sourcing our products and services locally, which bolsters local
businesses and reduces carbon emissions associated with long-distance transportation.
We're proud of our sustainability initiatives at Oceana B&B and continually strive to
improve upon them. All our guests receive information on our practices, along with tips
on how they can reduce their own environmental impact during their stay. We firmly
believe that everyone has a role to play in preserving the environment.
Your stay at Oceana B&B isn't just a memorable experience; it's a commitment to
sustainable practices that contribute to a greener planet. Thank you for choosing us and
supporting our dedication to environmental responsibility.
Responsible Tourism
At Oceana B&B, we actively engage with the local community. We proudly partner with nearby businesses and artisans to showcase their products and services, promoting economic growth and cultural heritage. By sourcing locally-produced goods, we support the local economy and foster a sense of pride and connection to the community.
Ethical Practices:
Ethical considerations are integral to our responsible tourism approach. We prioritize treating each other, our guests, and our community with respect, honesty, and integrity. Upholding ethical practices in all aspects of our life, home, and business is our commitment.
Animal Welfare:
We are dedicated to animal welfare and strive to use RSPCA's higher-welfare products whenever possible. To protect native wildlife, we discourage guests from feeding them and remind them to drive with caution during specific hours. For ethical animal encounters, we recommend visiting Bonorong, a not-for-profit wildlife rescue and sanctuary located just a short drive from Oceana.
First Nations Peoples:
We pay homage to the traditional owners of the land upon which we live. Our guest compendium includes original Aboriginal names of places around lutruwita/Tasmania, retrieved through the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre’s palawa kani Language Program. Sharing the rich history of the area, we emphasize the significance of our property's location in trumanyapayna, known as "Kangaroo Point," which was part of the country of mumirimina. We believe this land belongs to all and take great pleasure in introducing it to our guests.
PALAWA KIPLI - Tasmanian Aboriginal-Inspired Food:
For an immersive experience in Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and history, we recommend Palawa Kipli’s kipli takara tours at Piyura Kitina/Risdon Cove, nipaluna, Hobart. These bushtucker tours offer insights into the traditional use of native plants in food and provide opportunities to learn from Tasmanian Aboriginal people about their deep connection to the land and food resources.
At Oceana B&B, responsible tourism extends beyond environmental considerations to include ethical responsibilities. We are committed to treating all beings with care and respect, recognizing the importance of indigenous cultures, and promoting ethical encounters with wildlife. Join us on this journey of responsible tourism, where unforgettable experiences and ethical practices go hand in hand.
Original Aboriginal names of places around Lutruwita/Tasmania have been retrieved over many years of work by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre’s palawa kani Language Program. "palawa kani" is the language of Tasmanian Aborigines. It translates as “Tasmanian Aborigines speak”. It is the only Aboriginal language spoken in Lutruwita/Tasmania today.
The area in which we live is called Trumanyapayna, “Kangaroo Point”. The whole area on the Eastern Shore of the Derwent River was the richest kangaroo ground in the south at the time of settlement and was part of the country of mumirimina, the nation at Kangaroo Point. Our property backs onto this bushland setting.
This beautiful peninsula on which we live has extensive views across the Derwent River to Hobart City and its glorious backdrop, kunanyi/Mt. Wellington with its forever-changing facades depending on the season. Looking south down the river the northern tip of Bruny Island and the D'Entrecasteaux Channel are in view. We belong to this place; it doesn't belong to us! It is here for all to enjoy, and it is our great pleasure to introduce it to our guests.
